Bahrain Trade Mark Office Revises Filing Practices with Adoption of Nice Classification 13th Edition

Bahrain’s Trade Mark Office (TMO) has adopted the 13th Edition of the Nice Classification (NCL 13-2026), bringing its classification practices in line with the latest international standards. This update reflects Bahrain's ongoing efforts to align its trade mark framework with globally recognised classification systems and enhance consistency in the examination of trade mark applications.

In addition, the TMO has introduced significant changes to the way specifications of goods and services are filed. The use of freely drafted or customised specifications is no longer permitted. Instead, applicants must select goods and services from the approved list of accepted terms corresponding to the updated Nice Classification.

As a result, applicants are required to ensure that their specifications comply with the pre-approved terminology adopted by the TMO.

CWB will continue monitoring developments and stands ready to assist clients in assessing and adapting their existing specifications to ensure compliance with the revised TMO requirements.
