The Trade Mark Office in Qatar has clarified that, following the recent adoption of the 13th edition of the Nice Classification, all trade mark classes under the classification are available for registration. The clarification was circulated in a March 2026 communication from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. As a practical consequence, Class 33 should now be available for registration in Qatar, which was previously limited.

Trade mark applicants should now be able to better align their beverage-related trade mark filings with broader international specifications. The availability of Class 33 should also reduce the need for workaround strategies.

Importantly, trade mark owners with interest in Class 33 in Qatar should urgently review their portfolios for gap filings, and put watch notices in place, as it is expected that third parties could take advantage of the new class availability.
