Bulgaria Accedes to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement

On 31 March 2026, Bulgaria deposited its instrument of accession to the Geneva Act of the Lisbon Agreement on Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications (“Geneva Act”). The Geneva Act will enter into force for Bulgaria on 30 June 2026.

Geneva Act currently reaches 27 Contracting Parties covering up to 61 countries, while the total Lisbon System reach is up to 73 countries worldwide.

This accession will allow Bulgaria to protect its appellations of origin and geographical indications under the Geneva Act, including the renowned BULGARSKO ROZOVO MASLO (Bulgarian rose oil), BULGARSKO KISELO MLYAKO (Bulgarian yogurt), and TROJANSKA KERAMICA (Trojan ceramics), to name only a few.
