Ukraine Customs Seize Nearly 17,000 Counterfeit Toys and Accessories

On 12 August, Ukrainian customs officials in the Zakarpattia region seized a large shipment of counterfeit Labubu toys and accessories during a routine inspection at the Ukraine–Slovakia border.

The seized goods, intended for a businessman from the Volyn region in Ukraine, comprised a total of 16,850 items including 7,440 plush toys, 8,120 keychains, 1,140 silicone cases, and 150 headphone cases. The total value of the seized goods exceeds 500,000 UAH (10,360 EUR).

Labubu brand, known for its quirky plush monster design created by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung and produced by Chinese toy maker Pop Mart, has gained substantial popularity in the global fashion and social media circles.

The brand owner reviewed the photographs provided by the customs officials and confirmed that the goods were counterfeit, after which the authorities detained the shipment. The matter is now being referred to the court for further review.

This enforcement action reflects Ukraine’s growing efforts to curb the import of counterfeit goods, particularly those exploiting trending brands with international appeal, underscoring the vigilance of customs authorities in safeguarding intellectual property.
